Troops Overseas Celebrate Independence Day With World’s Largest Pizza Party

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 09, 2009 – Chicago, IL  – This past holiday weekend, our troops overseas celebrated with a slice of home thanks to Pizzas 4 Patriots (www.pizzas4patriots.com).  The Chicago-based non-profit teamed up with UNO and DHL express to ship 28,000 pizzas to our troops in time for Independence Day.  The effort, dubbed Operation Pizza Surge, dished out over 224,000 slices of original deep-dish, Chicago-style pizza to U.S. service personnel throughout Iraq and Afghanistan.

Guests at UNO restaurants and visitors to Pizzas4patriots.com also donated to the cause, for which the soldiers were extremely grateful.

“It was absolutely wonderful to get a little taste of home on this holiday.  What you are doing is a great thing and I know that more soldiers than just us really appreciate it!” wrote CPT, OD Michael Stephens, WO1 Seth Watson, and CPT Chris Rizzo.”

Operation Pizza Surge is slated to be documented as the world’s largest pizza party by the Guinness Book of World Records.

“Our customers were thrilled to support this cause and to celebrate, in spirit, July 4th with our troops,” said Vietnam veteran and UNO CEO Frank Guidara.  “We salute them and thank them for all of their donations.”

“This was an effort that our employees have felt truly privileged to support,” said Adrian Watts, managing director, U.S. government sales and support for DHL Express. “The delivery has been a blessing for those serving our country by letting them know their sacrifices are appreciated by those back home.”
